General preventive recommedations in southern Spain: Dog: Vaccinations Canine Distemper, Parvo, HCC, Kennel Cough, Leptospirosis and Rabies. Deworming 4 times a year, many different drugs eg Drontal Plus and Zipiran Plus. Heartworm prevention monthly tablets or yearly injection eg Cardotek and Guardian SR. Leishmaniasis prevention is important. Use Scalibur collar or Exspot drops. Ticks and Fleas. Scalibur or Exspot will normally give sufficient protection, but in diffucult surcumstances use Frontline. Cat: Vaccinations:Felv, Panleucopenia, Herpesvirus and Calicivirus Deworming: 4-6 times a year eg Vitaninthe. Tics and Fleas: Frontline or Stronghold. Leishmaniasis: Leishmaniasis is a very common illnes among dogs on the coast. It is estimated that approxamately 20% of dogs on the coast are affected by the disease.
